 Leaving a Legacy

“I was blessed with talent but worked as though I had none.”  Kobe Bryant

The Super Bowl. Daytona 500. The Academy Awards. This time of year, inspiration is all around us. Dramatic comeback victories and team triumphs capture the whole world’s attention. But how can we utilize those moments and memorialize their essence in our own lives? How can we transform from spectator to instigator?

A crucial step toward any goal is hard work. The climatic moments when a team receives a first-place trophy or an actor hoists a trophy above their head represents hundreds, possibly thousands of hours of grind, devotion, and consistency only to be possible because of a team of writers, producers, directors, coaches.

At ABACORP, we admire excellence and commit to helping our team find it in themselves. Each role in our company is valued as a crucial component of our final success. Only when every single part is striving to be better can we all accomplish greatness together.

“If you really want to be great at something, you have to truly care about it. If you want to be great in a specific area, you have to obsess over it.  A lot of people say they want to be great, but they’re not willing to make the necessary sacrifices to achieve greatness.  They have other concerns, whether important or not, That’s totally fine. After all, greatness is not for everybody.”   Kobe Bryant

“Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance”   Samuel Jackson

In 2009 unemployment rose to 10 percent, the worst since the 1982 recession.  Almost 6 million jobs were lost in the 12 months prior to that. ABACORP was 12 years old at this time and the world as we knew it was over.  We were the last industry hit and knew the struggle was going to be difficult, but we were determined to not go down defeated.

We kept our heads up and had the confidence in ourselves knowing that our team would perform and persevere.

After all, at ABACORP we believe in our legacy. The tasks that we perform every day may seem minuscule or routine. But in each task, there is a choice – do your best or don’t. Being mindful of excellence is something that will eventually impact family, friends and community. What legacy will you leave behind?
